BIOGRAPHICAL PROFILE


Matthew Tomatz works as a psychotherapist in Boulder, Colorado. Matthew has a private practice and he has been a member of the senior staff of Counseling and Psychiatric Services at the University of Colorado, Boulder since 2008. He is licensed as a professional counselor and as an addictions counselor. He is also certified as a group psychotherapist by AGPA. Before beginning his career as a psychotherapist in 2001, he served as the Assistant Dean of the Aspen Music Festival and School and a member of their staff for six years. Matthew holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education (University of Houston Moores School of Music), a Master of Music Performance/Trumpet (University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music), and a Master of Psychology (Naropa University). He is also trained as a certified yoga teacher has taught popular yoga and meditation classes since 2000. These combined experiences help inform Matthew’s clinical approach that includes a strong emphasis on somatic intervention, performance psychology, and behavioral change. Matthew has innovated methods for working with musicians and performers in his work as Counselor Liaison to the University of Colorado School of Music and its Musicians’ Wellness Program. He has also developed several workshops and group therapies that integrate mindfulness, somatic intervention, and behavioral therapies, many of which are currently being offered at the University of Colorado.
